Festival Closing Event: Northern Noir Crime Fiction with A.A. Dhand and Robert Scragg

March 26 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

£6

Tickets: here

To close this year’s festival we have an event examining the growing trend of Northern Noir crime fiction. What is this recent literary phenomenon? Why are crime fiction writers beginning to focus their attention on Yorkshire and the North of England? To explore these questions and more, authors A.A. Dhand and Robert Scragg will be in conversation with Rob O’Connor, the Director of York Literature Festival.
A.A. Dhand was raised in Bradford and spent his youth observing the city from behind the counter of a small convenience store. After qualifying as a pharmacist, he worked in London and travelled extensively before returning to Bradford to start his own business and begin writing. The history, diversity and darkness of the city have inspired his Harry Virdee novels. In 2016, A.A. Dhand’s debut novel Streets of Darkness was released to critical acclaim. Since its release it has been selected for World Book night 2017, chosen for Read Regional 2017 and in February 2017 Streets of Darkness smashed into the UK bestseller lists.
Robert Scragg had a random mix of jobs such as bookseller and karate instructor before taking the dive into crime writing. He lives in Tyne & Wear, is a founding member of the North East Noir crime writers’ group and at Harrogate Crime Festival 2016, What Falls Between the Cracks, his first novel featuring Porter and Styles, was pitched at the 2016 “Dragon’s Den” of agents and editors and got 4 ‘yes’ votes. Robert is currently writing the second Porter and Styles novel.
